Psalm 123 is a "flyover" psalm, a short but deep call to God from a place of humiliation. In a short 4 verses, "have mercy upon us" occurs twice and "contempt" is mentioned twice. The song is ultimately about Jesus Christ who endured total contempt on the cross.
