Thus far, Israel's only king was God. Now the people demand a king because all the other kids in the neighborhood have one. The Law of Moses made provisions for a king, yet Samuel sees the idea of a king as "evil." God says this demand is a rejection of him but still tells Samuel to grant their request. All human rulers we seek will take and take. The true King gives and serves.
