Psalm 79 is a community lament of a national atrocity. The calls for justice are unmistakable. Unbelieving nations have trampled holy ground and slaughtered thousands, leaving the dead everywhere. Their entire nation was subsumed into another. Whole families died together. Their temple and religious life was destroyed. Even in all of this heartbreaking loss, the people give thanks to God.
