Jesus tells a rich young man to sell everything he has and come follow him. The rich man walks away sad. Nearly everyone in the USA (among other places) would be in this man's income bracket. Does this demand extend to all of Jesus' followers? This is actually a lesson on salvation by grace alone. It is impossible for us to be good enough to inherit eternal life. However, we who are rich are not entirely off the hook. Jesus does not outright condemn wealth, but he does give a whole new perspective on money and possessions that we need to accept.
